95: What happened to China and their promise to purchase 12 million metric tons of American soybeans?

Back on October 30, 2025, President Trump met Chinese leader Xi Jingping on the sidelines of the the APEC meeting in South Korea for a US-China trade war truce.
During that time, Trump announced that China had agreed to purchase 12 million metric tons of American soybeans by the end of 2025.
However, now that we are in December, the numbers are more revealing: China has only purchased 2.7 million metric tons, well short of their agreement.

After my parents excaped the fall of Saigon in 1975, they were sponsored by the Shipleys, a simple rural farming family that didn't have much in common with our family.
Dan and Sallie Shipley helped our family get on our feet in America---we started to learn English, dad got a job washing dishes, and we slowly started to adapt to our new surroundings.
Despite establishing our lives in Mankato, Minnesota for the next 25 years, our American beginnings occurred in the rural farming communitities of St. Charles, Marthasville, and Washington, Missouri.
This past weekend, we paid a tribute to our 50 years in America by visiting the Shipleys.
